Florals in the park

UO Jacket, American Apparel tank dress, Coach bag, Anthro headband, F21 heels

Dressing up a military jacket with my floral Forever 21 heels and a simple tank dress. My attempt to bring the florals back to nature was fine in theory, but my artistic aspirations clouded my judgment. Venturing outside was probably not the best idea considering my allergies are trying to kill me at the moment...

In other news, the winner of The Kind Life book, signed by Alicia Silverstone is...

Ana, please email me (sprinklesinsprings@gmail.com)

70s Beach *Pastels & Tourists

It was a beautiful Sunday morning today, so I felt it necessary to travel to the beach for this shoot, considering all the pretty pastel colors involved. In my big closet clean-out/reorganization, I stumbled across this shirt from Charlotte Ronson that I got a million years ago and these cream wedge 'flats' that I felt would both go together well since they reminded me of all the 70s stuff coming out. I love the caning detail on the shoes (a bit 70s, right? Or am I crazy.. idk, I'm not old enough to know!!)  The pants I swiped from my sister on my recent trip to Orlando. (Meg- did you notice something's missing from your closet?? Thanks! :) )

The drive over was funny; we had to wait for the drawbridge to go up (for the boats to get through), and two cars in front of me this entire family- driver and all- run out of their SUV and charge the drawbridge like it was some kind of magical piece of machinery that could not be observed from the safety of your own car. They watched in awe as some other dude in an adjacent car, got out of his car and proceeded to take pictures and movies of it (the drawbridge, not the people). I'm really hoping their FL license plate vehicles were rentals and they were people from some landlocked state... (don't get me wrong, I love tourists and all, but I've never seen anything like it in my life. I'm not a hater, just telling a funny story, but maybe you just had to be there...)

Mission: Closet Organization

My closet and armoire have successfully been re-organized.The only new things I bought are the four cloth baskets in the armoire and new hangers. Everything else (as you can see) was there already, I just moved some things around. I'd been wanting to get some new, matching hangers to streamline it, and the shoes lined up on the floor were annoying me a bit. Also, the space in the top shelf of the armoire wasn't being used very well (when I got it, I just threw things in there planning to organize it later). So those were the main things I wanted to fix in this restructuring.

I put all of my jeans and t-shirts in the armoire to free up some breathing room for the other items in my closet and got all of my shoes off the floor. (The Target build-it-yourself furniture is from college, bought at different times, that's why they don't match!) This was a good fix without spending a lot, since I don't plan on being in this space for too much longer. Spring cleaning- check!

Mint Green

H&M cropped sweater, American Apparel tee, Express pants,
Jessica Simpson silver oxfords, Elliott Lucca bag

It's been a busy few days, tackling some spring cleaning and giving my space some much needed organization. I managed to snap a picture of my outfit that I wore running errands, picking up some things like this to streamline the old closet. As of now, it looks like a tornado came through my room (it always gets wore before it gets better, can I get an amen??). I'm off to wade through my room and attempt to bring order out of the chaos... wish me luck and have a great weekend!!!

Vegan Cake Balls & Truffles

The timing was perfect when I came across this recipe for Vegan Avocado Cupcakes and Emily's mention of Birthday Cake Truffles from Momofuku. I wanted to recreate those truffles, but then saw this recipe from Bakerella and put those avocado cupcakes to use, making those into a cake ball/truffle. (In short, there were a few contributing factors in my creation of these tasty bites!)

These are perfect for those with a sweet tooth (like me). Plus, if you spread out four in a day, you really only ate the equivalent of one cupcake (and a healthy one at that)!

Adding the avocado mixture to the dry ingredients. (Note* If you want the entire cake ball to be vegan, dip them in vegan chocolate, not the kind I show here.)

I cut the cake in pieces to cool off faster.

Mix the frosting with the (cooled) crumbled cake.

Roll it into balls and refrigerate before you dip in chocolate.

I used the dunking method :)

Truffles (rolled in cocoa powder) & Cake Balls (dipped in chocolate)

Eat and enjoy!
..........................................................................
I hope you all get a chance to try this recipe, it's amazing!

Giveaway: The Kind Diet signed by Alicia Silverstone

Happy Valentine's Day! Before I get to the post, here is a quick look at the outfit I wore at the time of the story I'm about to tell. I didn't think of doing an outfit shot on the actual day I wore this, so I recreated it for the blog :)
Gap jacket, Geren Ford dress, Jeffrey Campbell shoes

[Lavender] OPI "Done Out In Deco" / [Purple] ZOYA "Julieanne"

I told you I was going to report on last weekend's trip to Orlando and here it is... Right when I arrived at my sister's place and dumped my bags, we headed right out to attended an event at the university featuring Alicia Silverstone. As you may know, she's the author of The Kind Diet, a book about eating healthy and saving the planet. She spoke about nutrition and the environment (topics in her book), did a Q&A and signed a ton of books.

Quick story: We were running short on time, so I suggested a faster route as we were walking to the building. A shortcut I found while I went to school there.. the back entrance where signs say students aren't allowed... oooh rebels! Anyway, being fashionably late, and knowing about the shortcut, who would we waltz in behind but Alicia and her entourage (of two!) We saw some people getting out of a car and jokingly I said "hey there's Alicia" and then realized it was her..

Anyway, she was the cutest thing ever, even more lovable and awesome than you'd expect. (She's pregnant right now too!) The speech was so informative and I agree with everything she said. Even though she's vegan and basically superwoman, it was easy to relate to the things she was saying and not the intimidating "all or nothing" mentality that many other speakers of the subject convey. I've read my sister's copy of this book and it's really great. She starts out by logically telling you why meat and dairy aren't good for your body and why the production of them aren't good for the planet. Then there are three ways you can approach veganism: flirting, going vegan, and becoming a superhero. She also gives amazing recipes to help start you thinking in the right direction. While I'm not vegan, I certainly try my best to cut out as much meat and dairy as possible, to eat healthy and always think about the planet.

I really could go on and on about this subject, but I'll let the book speak for itself. One person will win a signed copy of it here on this blog, but if you can't wait to read it, check it out from your library or get it online here

Brand new & signed

I could have kept it for myself, but I want to share the wisdom :)
Think of it as a Valentine's Day gift!

They wouldn't let us talk to her or get photos (only signatures)
because it was getting late :(  But here's what I managed to snap:

To enter:

Winner will be randomly selected and be announced in two weeks (Feb 28th).

Movie Pick: The Virgin Suicides

First, I want to say how excited I am that it's the start of Fashion Week! I feel like we just saw what's new for Spring and in comes Fall. These past few months really flew by with the holidays and all. But I can't wait to see what's in store for our next bought of cold weather and what each designer brings to the table. Are there any shows in particular that you're looking forward to? I'm curious to see how Jill Stuart is going to follow a triumphant Spring 2011, and also what's new at Cynthia Rowley and Diane von Furstenberg.

Now on to the movie...

Any fan of Sophia Coppola's work is familiar with The Virgin Suicides. It's a cult classic about a mysterious group of five sheltered sisters who all commit suicide (that's not a spoiler; just look at the title of the film...) Under the spell of these sisters, a few fascinated neighborhood boys try to piece together the known fragments of the girls' lives, but the enigmatic sisters' motives elude them. This is a magnificent and memorable film that will have you engulfed in this aesthetic and heartfelt story.

The "White Denim in Winter" Challenge

Forever 21 faux fur coat, shirt and belt; Alfani jeans,
Sam Edelman 'Sutton' boots, bag from Lucky Mag

My fabulous BOTM, Carrie, has challenged bloggers to break the "no white in winter" rule and showcase how we wear white denim during the colder months. The outfit above is what I'd be wearing for winter if it was actually cold here. I consider this my last chance to wear some tall boots and a warm faux fur coat before Spring is here. But since we all know by now that south Florida's winter is laughable (save for a few choice days here and there), the outfit below is the kind of thing I'm actually wearing right now. ((I borrowed the jeans from my mom after realizing that I donated my only pair of white denim a few months ago.))

I just got these super cute ditsy floral heels at Forever 21 this weekend and already got so many compliments while wearing them out to dinner. (I was going to wait until Spring to break them out, but couldn't resist giving them a trial run!)

Forever 21 shirt, belt and shoes; Alfani jeans

Check out how these other rebels styled their own white denim:
