Outfit Inspiration- Edward Scissorhands

I'm sure that I don't need to explain this movie- it's a classic Tim Burton film, and if you've never heard of it... welcome to planet Earth. These are some outfit inspirations to channel the film, and the best part is- they're not too Halloween-y, so you can wear the pieces the rest of the year.

1. NASTY GAL Maurie & Eve Games Are Over Buckle' Dress $220
3. DIANE VON FURSTENBERG Casual pants $250
5. 14 inch Rabbit $38
7. BLUEFLY Diane Von Furstenberg 'Pareese' pants $173
8. LULU’S Collage Artist Scissor Necklace $13

Movie Pick- Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face)

Les Yeux Sans Visage is a 60's French horror film that influenced many other horror films to come (Face/Off, anyone?). A crazed doctor tries to help his daughter get a new face after a car crash left her severely disfigured. They fake her death so no one will come looking for her, including her fiance. With the help of his secretary, the doctor lures in one unsuspecting woman after another into his home to steal their faces and transplant them onto his daughter's- hoping they will stick. Their country home is the perfect backdrop for these crimes- no one can hear the screams.

This is a classic French horror film that I watch every year around this time. With all these modern horror/slasher films out now that scare you with gore or shock tactics, it's good to get back to the basics.

They took her face, she died. What to do with the body?
Drop her in the river and fake the daughter's death.

I don't think I can handle this...

A quiet French country home. You'd never suspect what was going on in the basement...

The daughter, Christiane.

Luring another girl to be experimented on...

Don't take my face!!

Bad luck.

L'amour Charlotte Ronson

This video from Charlotte Ronson's Spring 2008 Campaign reflects my mood for the past few days. I love the song - L'amour by Carla Bruni - and of course the clothes! It makes me want to go do some laundry and then smell it lol, and paint my nails blue.

Hope you're having a great day!

Romantic Moods & McAdams

I've been in a romantic mood ever since creating my style pile- wanting to live in old French movies, lounging around the house in luxurious fabrics and spritzing on Tocca's sultry 'Brigitte' perfume, while cozying up to my faux fur throw and drinking the most delicious mango tea.

While browsing InStyle, I came across the cover story on Rachel McAdams (the interview took place in Paris at L'Avenue, oohlala).  The photos are romantic, sultry and elegant and the hair/makeup/styling came together seamlessly. I especially love the messy updo and the cat eyeliner; there's just something about messy hair adding to a romantic vibe, a certain je ne sais quoi.

What's in your style pile?

Over at iVillage, the Beauty & Style section wants to know what's in people's style piles- aka the stuff that you own/love that defines you and your style. I just had to give it a try and see what I came up with. I've never really defined my own personal style, so this would be interesting. I came up with 3 different piles (ever the overachiever...), but this one looked the most cohesive. While I don't think I totally nailed it and defined my style to a T, I figure a person's style is ever-changing and the most we can ever do is recognize what we have going on at that moment, and go from there..

If you're interested in doing a style pile also, I'd love to see what you come up with. Load them on the iVillage website or post it on your blog and send a link!

.....................................................  Kara's Style Pile .....................................................

  • My style is minimal classic with a twist. I like to throw in a bold print or a studded accessory for pop. And a little sparkle is always great.
  • I'm inspired by women who have a strong sense of self and personal style and who wear things with unabashed confidence, owning their look. I'm always online looking at fashion blogs like The Sartorialist, learning from the best and getting inspired.
  • Something about me that most people wouldn't know (because I sometimes come off as quiet and shy) is that I tend to be very theatrical and dramatic around people I know well. My secret dream is to run away and join the circus - to be a performer!

DVF's Neon Pink Lips

There were a few pops of bright pink on various designers' model's lips this season; one who stands out is Diane Von Furstenberg. I was browsing the Full Frontal Fashion's site and came across some backstage photos from her show. Enter, neon magenta lips. I read that they were inspired by one of DVF's Warhol portraits, and wondered "What does it take to make your lips pop like that?" MAC Cosmetics, that's what. According to Tekbuz.com, the look was created by layering a loose Pigment in Magenta Madness over the Chromagraphic Pencil in Process Magenta.

Will you be (or are you already) sporting bright lips?

That's what's on my mind today... I'm getting ready for a weekend of dogsitting for a friend, catching up on some TV, finishing DVF:A Signature Life, and eating the French Chocolate Mint Ice Cream that I just made with the Ice Cream Machine I got with my CSV giftcard that I won on Josie's blog. (I hope it turned out- my first time making homemade ice cream!!)
