Burn the Barn

Hey everyone, hope you all had a great holiday. I'm back from mine and wanted to share a few photos. On my aunt's property is an old barn that my cousins, sister and I would love to play in when we were little. The attic of it was cool because it's completely bare and we'd never want to venture to the far side of it for fear of falling through the floor!  It never happened, but when I was there a few days ago, we still didn't want to risk it, so we shot some artsy photos on the 'safe side.' (I had some outfit shots outside, but it wasn't happening because it was too cold not to look cheesy. We did get to warm up around the monstrous lights in the attic though. Those things were serious.) Hope you all have fun (and safe) New Years celebrations tonight and I wish you a great 2011!

xx Kara

7 Sprinkles

As you know, 'Sprinkles' are what I call 'bits of inspiration' here on my blog and I wanted to give you an update of 7 random things that are inspiring me at the moment. I wanted to do another post like my 10 Things I Love one back in November, and since this is a blog about inspiration, it only seems right to carry on this tradition. (10 is too predictable, even and formal; so I pick 7. It's odd and random, also lucky with religious connotations. How about that.)

1. This video by Max Neutra

2. Artwork by Alex Pardee

3. These songs

4. Johnny Weir
(Can't wait to read his book!)

5. How I Met Your Mother
Inspiring my life (and it's really funny!) I'm watching the old seasons to get caught up.

6. Bummed Cotton Candy Picture
(You'd be bummed too if you dropped your cotton candy!)

7. Heart Hands

Movie Pick- The Majestic

Jim Carrey stars in this heartwarming story about a 1940s Hollywood filmmaker who's been blacklisted and is awaiting trial. He takes a long drive to clear his head but gets in an accident that causes amnesia. He is embraced by a small, patriotic town who has mistakenly confused him as the son of one of the townspeople. He is greeted warmly as a returned war hero and becomes a beacon of hope to the town. It's only a matter of time before he regains his memory and the harsh truth is revealed to all.

In the meantime, he (ironically) helps his 'father' restore The Majestic, a movie theater they own and ran together. Just as the building is coming back to life, so is the town.

"-Do you remember me?
-No, but I’ll sure try."

"All those actors, they were gods, and they lived up there on the screen. That was Olympus. Would you remember how lucky we felt just to be here? To have the privilege of watching them? I mean, this television thing- why would you want to stay home and watch a little box? Because it’s convenient? Because you don’t have to get dressed up, because you can just sit there? How can you call that entertainment, alone in your living room? Where’s the other people, where’s the audience? Where’s the magic?"

"-How hard can it be? We fix the place up, sell tickets.
-Harry, look around. It’s a dump.
-I am looking around. And all I see is potential. She doesn’t look like much now, but once this place was like a palace, that’s why we called her Majestic. Any man, woman or child could buy a ticket, walk right in. And in they’d come entering a palace like in a dream, like in heaven. Maybe you had worries and problems out there but once you came through those doors, they didn’t matter any more."

On old girlfriend that's trying to help him get back his memory...

"This town needed you to be Luke, so you were Luke."

The grand opening of the Majestic.

"What happens if his memory does come back?
Which life will he remember- which would he choose?"

An intimidating interrogation- The witchunt that was the 1944 Hollywood blacklisting
during President Hoover’s presidency.

The Third Wish

My third and final Wish dress. This black mini was a tad too short (aka scandalous) for me especially when you take into consideration that it's a strapless. So I paired it with an oxford shirt to make it more conservative. It's also a great way to dress down a party dress and get more use out of it.

A Second Wish

A second of three Wish dresses; I went out into the "wilderness" for this shoot. I just got this faux fur coat from Forever 21 and have been wearing it nonstop whenever it gets cold. I knew it would look great with a maxi dress, so I was very excited about pairing it with this olive green one from Wish. Top it off with a sparkly headband and you have a romantic, rustic look worthy of frolicking in a field at sunset.

Three Wishes

The fabulous people at Wish sent over three dresses of my choice to feature in some upcoming posts. It was hard narrowing down my favorites after seeing their lookbook, but I managed and couldn't have been more happy with my selections. I'm obsessed with the pattern on this one... and the colors are some of my favorites! This is outfit one of three, so make sure you come back to see the rest (you're in for a treat)!

Our chilly "winter" weather has left us for the time being, so I broke out the pale legs to catch some rays. It was incredibly windy, which made taking outside shots of this outfit almost impossible. Chiffon + hurricane-like winds = bad photos! As soon as we got something I could use, we called it a day.

Forever 21 ring, Vintage sunglasses

*A special thank you to Stephanie for granting my wishes!*

Sprinkles in Springs Boutique

It's always been a distant dream of mine to have my own boutique. Since middle school, I've planned what the name would be, how the store would be set up, what kind of merchandise I'd sell, how I'd market it, etc. I haven't moved past that brainstorming stage yet, but that idea's always been in the back of my mind (maybe one day I'll make it a reality). Until then, I can have fun with Google's new Boutiques.com site. What I love most about it is the search feature to find items that visually resemble one another. Say you see an awesome dress, but you want to find one like it for less. One click gets you a magical list of other items that strongly resemble that dress (the style, color, etc). I find it very useful for tracking down something specific without the need of traveling to dozens of different websites to find what I'm looking for. It's similar to Shopstyle and other websites like that, but Boutiques is a bit classier. Check it out for yourself and see the official Sprinkles in Springs boutique here.

Here's some of my favorite pieces in my boutique.
(To see everything, just click on my favorites!)
